The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, meanwhile, is based on the first of a trilogy of international bestsellers by the late Swedish journalist Stieg Larsson. The original book has sold 10 million copies since it was published in 2005 and the film's box office takings stand at around 2.3 million in Scandanavia alone.
