Arsenal defender Kolo Toure is likely to finalise his £15m switch to Manchester City today and is expected at Eastlands for a medical. Toure, who cost Arsene Wenger just £150,000, is the last remaining member of the Gunners' 2003-4 'invincibles' squad. Wenger is widely predicted to set his sights on Fulham's rangy defender Brede Hangeland as a replacement, although the Cottagers would be reluctant to sell and have offered to double the player's wages to keep him.

Liverpool look set to sell midfielder Xabi Alonso to Real Madrid says the Daily Express. Although manager Rafa Benitez wanted £35m for the 27-year-old, the fee is likely to be under £30m.

Liverpool are also set to cash in on their two fullbacks Alvaro Arbeloa and Andrea Dossena for a combined fee of around £10m according to the Telegraph. Reports in Spain suggest a fee of around £4.5m has been agreed with Real Madrid for Arbeloa. His team-mate Dossena is understood to be close to a move to Napoli after Liverpool accepted a bid of around £5m.

Arsenal's pursuit of Klaas-Jan Huntelaar has been given a boost now that local rivals Tottenham signed Peter Crouch, although it is reported that wheeler-dealer Spurs boss Harry Redknapp would still be interested if he could offload Roman Pavlyuchenko to Roma or Stuttgart.

However, former Gunners midfield general Patrick Vieira now looks unlikely to join Spurs. Redknapp admitted that Vieira had gone "very quiet" after initial talks were held with the player's representatives. The chances of a deal going through were not helped by another famous ex-Gunner, Thierry Henry, saying that he would never advise a former Arsenal player to switch allegiences to Spurs.

Spurs striker Darren Bent is at the centre of a £15m tug-of-war according to the Sun. He appeared to be on his way to Sunderland until Stoke and Hull registered their interest and matched Sunderland's club-record bid. Bent was taken off the plane flying Tottenham to their pre-season tour of China as his move to the Black Cats was thrashed out, but although he is expected to have a medical today the other clubs are now moving in. ·
