Cafe du Vaudeville
Brussels apartment
The Cafe du Vaudeville, in Brussels' fantastically stylish 19th-century shopping arcade Galerie de la Reine, was a favourite haunt of Karl Marx, Victor Hugo and Auguste Rodin. Now it's possible to stay above it, says Adrian Mourby in the Independent on Sunday, thanks to hotelier Pierre Piwonski. Each of the elegant rooms has a distinctive style - "colonial", "minimalist", "operatic" - and is treated as an apartment: there's no reception; instead, you're given your own key and can buzz visitors in. Breakfast is delivered to your room from the cafe below.
