Arty in Antwerp

A superb weekend destination

Compared to its "arch-rival" Amsterdam, Antwerp is little visited, says Sarah Shuckburgh in the Sunday Telegraph – which is a shame. Belgium's second city was once the wealthiest in the Western world and, despite a few centuries of decline (now reversed), it still shines. First, there are the diamonds – those unable to buy any can watch as they're cut and polished.

Add gourmet cuisine, fashion and art (this is the city of Rubens, after all), and you have a superb weekend destination.

Eurostar (0870 518 6186) offers a ticket to Antwerp included in the cost of a London-Brussels trip. ·
