Pioneer's Kuro series prides itself on displaying the very darkest black levels. And the latest model is no less of a superstar, with the imposing 50-inch plasma producing a groupie-garnering performance. Packing an arsenal of picture modes, including processing options for games, sports, or movies, all do a sterling job of delivering ideal images for their respective material. In movie mode, Rambo on Blu-ray was all smooth, motion-filled action and pigment-perfect skin tones. On sets this big, no amount of up-scaling will make Freeview look great, but is that really why you'd buy this? The only real problem with the Kuro: finding someone to buy our kidneys so we can get one right away. ·
