Better Sharia law than no law at all
The trouble with gentle, tolerant Christianity is that while it is quite enough to support a morality and social order serving gentle and tolerant people living in leafy suburbs, it is no good at all for keeping order among barbarous and illiterate yobs and feral children living in the inner cities.
For them a more fundamental form of Christianity - one concerned to inculcate fear rather than love of God - is required, and if the Church of England does not supply this, the mutton-chopped Bishop of Rochester fears that Muslim fundamentalism might rush in to fill the gap.
Of course this is an over-simplification. In his Standpoint article he actually calls for Anglicans to return to their Victorian rigours across the board.
Unfortunately there is no chance in hell of today's highly educated elite renouncing their humanistic religion - political correctness and human rights etc - about which they are already fanatical. No chance of today's Oxbridge dons accepting chastity as they did in the Victorian era. No, the problem lies squarely among the relatively poor who cannot buy themselves out of the evils of the permissive society.
As it happens, Anglicanism never made much progress in the slums. There, it was always the secular arm of the state that maintained morality and social order with a degree of firmness which the humanist governing class no longer allows them to use.
Under these circumstances, a Muslim takeover might not be such a bad idea. Better Sharia Law than no law at all. Better Islamic authority than no authority at all. Incidentally this is what the Archbishop of Canterbury, the bearded one, recommended a few months ago. Perhaps he was right. ·

Typical rubbish from someone who could easily move abroad should Sharia law be introduced into the UK. Classic upper class "Do as I say not as I do". Sharia law is an insidious, mysoginist, barbaric, magic based legal system and has no place in any enlightened society. And as other commentators have mentioned, law and order is the responsibility of the police and courts, not the Church of England. Not funny or clever PW, just a lazy attempt to stir up a bit of controversy.
I think you lost the plot there PW, the Church is an organisation of faith and religion, the people who keep law and order on our streets are the Police ..... and neither you nor the Archbishop have made their jobs any easier by spouting this sort of trash. -- Maybe we should be concentrating on eliminating the political correctness from the Police force instead of telling them how to do their jobs and what code of laws they should be following. --
What's next on the law agenda? Bring back the death penalty for taking whichever deity you follows name in vain? Firing squads for those not in attendance at a religious institution on the correct day? --

The classic error here is the equation of the Church of England with Christianity - the C of E has always been crippled by wooly headed liberals and do gooders.
Real Christianity is more than adequate to bring order to inner cities. People need an internal change, not simply a brutally enforced external law, only Jesus Christ can bring about such a transformation.
What on earth are you talking about? Have you lived in a country where the sharia is implemented? NO! of course not silly me. Why do you assume that Christianity is the law? What about civil laws? Sharia law is not about law and order as you and the archibishop assume. It is about treating all non-muslims as 2nd class citizens. Even killing you is not a crime since you are not a muslim. What a crap article and conclusion. People should open teir mind and read teh Qura'an and study the sharia law. For God's Sake they are free on the internet. The archbishop has lost the plot completely. He should be concentrating on strengthining his faith not weaken it. I bet he will convert to islam in the fututre.
Christian and muslims do not have to fear each other. They should fear the non-believers (do not believe in a God). There are more of us out there.
Please never say this. Sharia would be good for everything BUT domestic relations which sadly is its only likely application (i.e. control of Muslim women). This would reinforce the near- master-slave like inequalities inherent with multiculturalism (which should be abandoned and the victims of this regime - not just all women - compensated for).
