Lumiere London 2016 – highlights in pictures

Light-based artworks illuminate some of London's top landmarks

London is playing host to a unique light show that sees some of the city's most recognisable locations illuminated with electronic works of art.

Lumiere, a collaboration between arts trust Artichoke and the Mayor of London, promises public art on an unprecedented scale, with 30 exhibition spaces scattered across the UK capital. Leicester Square, St James's Park and Trafalgar Square are among the prominent locations where visitors can enjoy free light installations.

From a softly-lit spiritual scene on show at Westminster Cathedral to big, bold and brash illuminations hovering over shoppers on Oxford Street, Lumiere transforms some of London's greatest sites into a canvas for truly eye-grabbing artworks. The last day is Sunday – but if you can't get to see it, then simply click on the gallery above for highlights.
