Lord March on Hound Lodge, Goodwood's unique country retreat

The estate's former kennels have been converted into a stately holiday home, proving you can teach an old dog new tricks

Dogs are very important at Goodwood and have been for centuries. The first Duke of Richmond bought a house here in 1697 to use as a hunting lodge and as the home of the world's first major foxhunt, Goodwood's kennels and stables were the best buildings on the estate. Both are perfect examples of what 18th-century English aristocrats tended to do – they spent more time, money and effort on their horses and dogs than they did their guests and friends.
