Cockroach milk - the latest new superfood
Scientists work on synthesising protein crystal as milking insects 'not feasible' - and other tall tales
Our pick of the strange stories from around the world.
Got the bug for superfoods?
Scientists in India have sequenced a protein crystal from cockroaches said to be four times as nutritious as cow's milk. The discovery could help feed populations where calorie intake is insufficient. The crystal comes from Diploptera punctata, the only known cockroach to give birth to live young and which puts out a form of milk to feed its babies. Researchers are working on a way of synthesising the crystal as milking the insects is "not a feasible option".

Gamer attacks company HQ
A man deliberately crashed a car through the front doors of Korean game manufacturer Nexon, claiming that his addiction to the company's games had "ruined his life". The car shattered the glass doors of the building before coming to a stop in the lobby. The driver is a Chinese national on a three-month visa in Korea who used his brother's car in the attack. Authorities say he was over the legal alcohol limit at the time of the offence and does not have a driver's licence.
Man 'shatters feet' after hornet attack
A Washington man "shattered" both of his feet after being attacked by hornets. Ryan Larson told reporters he had climbed on the roof of his home with a high-pressure hose to clean it when he inadvertently triggered a "basketball-sized hornet's nest", leading the insects to attack him. His only escape was a 12ft jump from the roof, which resulted in injuries so bad it took two bouts of surgery to install screws, pins and plates to rebuild his feet.
