Gilmore Girls and the five most anticipated TV revivals
Some are calling it reviva-geddon, but the return of some much loved shows is cause for celebration for many fans
Top up your coffee and prepare for some sassy fast-talking. Netflix has announced a premiere date and released a trailer for the much anticipated revival of The Gilmore Girls.
The Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life will premiere globally on 25 November (Thanksgiving weekend in the US) and a new trailer gives fans a taste of what to expect.
The American comedy-drama television series, created by Amy Sherman-Palladino, stars Lauren Graham as sparky single mother Lorelai and Alexis Bledel as her daughter, confidant and verbal sparring partner Rory. It aired for seven seasons between 2000 and 2007.

A trailer for the new revival doesn't give much away in terms of the plot, but series producers have revealed that in A Year in the Life, Rory is living and working in London. The clip sees Rory return home to Stars Hollow, where she reunites with her mother, to do what they do best, shoot the breeze, and talk (fast) about trivia.
It shows Lorelai and Rory discussing whether Amy Schumer would like Lorelai, and whether John Oliver would find her hot. It's all as meta and charming as we'd expect from the Gilmore Girls. Adding to the "meta-ness" John Oliver has already responded to Lorelai's question on the Late Show, saying "yes" he does find her hot.
The series revival will consist of four special 90-minute episodes themed around the four seasons: Winter, Spring, Summer and Autumn.
As the much-loved show returns to screens, some commentators are wondering if we've reached peak-reboot, but for die-hard fans, you can't have too much of a good thing.
Here are five other highly-anticipated revivals due to hit our screens in the coming year.
Prison Break
Wentworth Miller returns for the next nail-biting chapter of Prison Break, and this time the escape is going global. As new clues surface suggesting that Michael Scofield (Miller) may still be alive, his brother, Lincoln Burrows (Dominic Purcell), reunites with Michael’s wife, Sara (Sarah Wayne Callies), and Fox River State Penitentiary’s most notorious escapees to mastermind the series’ biggest breakout ever. Due to air early 2017.
Cold Feet
A revival of ITV's bitter-sweet comedy drama about a group of friends dealing with life and love is set to return to our screens. The hit series focused on Adam Williams and Rachel Bradley (James Nesbitt and Helen Baxendale) as a couple going through dating, marriage and the birth of a child, while also following the stories of two other couples - Adam and Rachel's friends Pete and Jenny Gifford (John Thomson and Fay Ripley) and David and Karen Marsden (Robert Bathurst and Hermione Norris). The upcoming revival reunites most of the cast except Baxendale, whose character Rachel died in the original series - although a tribute is planned in one of the new episodes. Cold Feet will return to ITV for eight new episodes later in 2016.
24: Legacy
Following on from the genre-defining US series, Legacy chronicles another adrenaline-fuelled race against the clock to stop a deadly terrorist attack on US soil. It stars Corey Hawkins (Straight Outta Compton), Miranda Otto (Homeland) and Jimmy Smits (Sons of Anarchy). Due to air on Fox in February 2017.
Twin Peaks
Despite some hiccups, a new series of Twin Peaks is definitely on its way. David Lynch has returned to the ground-breaking show he first created, to serve up more surreal drama from the eerie town of Twin Peaks. The new series is set 25 years after the murder Laura Palmer and follows a female FBI agent as she studies a dossier on the cold case, discovering new secrets about the lives of the town's residents, and investigating reports from FBI agent Dale Cooper, who has since vanished. Due to air in the UK on Sky Atlantic in summer 2017.
Lethal Weapon
This one is not technically a series revival, but a new series reviving the characters from the hit movie franchise of the same name. It follows iconic cop double-act Riggs and Murtaugh, now working in modern-day Los Angeles. Clayne Crawford plays volatile, wildcard Martin Riggs who is teamed with the more cautious, by-the-book Roger Murtaugh (Damon Wayans), to form an unlikely but surprisingly successful crime-solving partnership. Due to air on Fox September this year.
