Ex-bookkeeper found guilty of murdering India Chipchase

An 'oddball' bookkeeper has been found guilty of raping and murdering a barmaid after luring her into a taxi outside a Northampton nightclub.

Edward Tenniswood, 52, ushered 20-year-old India Chipchase into a cab after finding her drunk near NB's cocktail bar on 30 January, promising "I'll get you home safe."

The following day, after Ms Chipchase's parents had reported her missing, police broke into Tenniswood's home and found her dead under a plastic sheet on a mattress.

Today a jury took less than two hours to find Tenniswood guilty of her rape and murder. Earlier Birmingham Crown Court heard how Ms Chipchase had been battered and strangled to death.

During the trial, jurors were shown "dramatic body-cam footage of the moment cops discovered India dead after smashing their way into Tenniswood's home," says the Mirror.

Tenniswood, referred to by his own barrister as an "oddball", told the jury he had had some very attractive girlfriends. "But the reality of Tenniswood's reclusive life was very different," writes The Sun, calling him "the Little Mix-obsessed oddball who fantasised about dating supermodels".

He maintained, for example, that he had once dated Heather Stewart-Whyte, though the Daily Telegraph includes a statement by the fashion model in which she dismisses the claim: "I can state categorically that I have never knowingly met this man and certainly have never had any kind of relationship with him," she said.

The MailOnline suggests there is a "striking resemblance" between the victim and Stewart-Whyte. "Pictures of the model when she appeared on magazine covers and in fashion shoots show she is the spitting image of barmaid Ms Chipchase."
