Chic Stays: A-plus accommodation advice from the A-list

Take a tour of the world's most coveted places in the company of an actor, writer, musician or model via Conde Nast Traveller's new tome

Social-media interest in celebrities "accidentally" papped while lounging on the beach is an everyday occurrence in the digital age, but if you want to know where they really escape to for some much-needed rest and relaxation, a new coffee-table tome may have the answer.

Chic Stays draws on the extensive knowledge and bulging contacts book of Conde Nast Traveller to bring together the globetrotting recommendations of a roll call of 36 of the leading tastemakers of today. Compiled by the magazine's editor, Melinda Stevens, the glossy publication features an array of hotels and residences across the world, with each entry accompanied by envy-inducing photography and a personal insight into why it makes the list.

The choices are as diverse as those who suggested them: Kate Winslet opts to escape to the remote wilderness of Eilean Shona, in Scotland, itself as picturesque as any film set, while Bill Nighy prefers the bustle of New York, always staying in suite 1103 at The Carlyle. Locations range from the tropical – such as Cara Delevingne's pick, the private-island resort of Parrot Cay in the Caribbean – to the quintessentially English style of Claridge's, which has been the long-time favourite of designer Paul Smith.
