Lights, camera, action: The Banff Mountain Film Festival
Enjoy the adventure from the comfort of your seat as the high-octane festival hits UK shores
Do you fancy experiencing some of the most exhilarating adventures, stunning vistas and far-flung destinations in the world without leaving Britain? The Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour promises just that, offering armchair adrenaline junkies and those planning their next expedition plenty of inspiration with a nationwide tour that showcases the best in real-life action-packed filmmaking.
This year is set to be the festival's biggest yet, with nearly 100 screenings across the UK and Ireland in over 50 venues ranging from Cork to Cornwall. The screenings will feature two different programmes, bringing together documentaries about leading adventurers and athletes that show their breathtaking escapades across the globe.
The schedule will place a particular emphasis on women in adventure; the playfully titled Four Mums in a Boat traces the journey of an all-female crew from Yorkshire as they attempt to navigate their way across the rocky waters of the Atlantic Ocean. Another film, Mira, sees Nepali girl Mira Rai overcome considerable challenges in her pursuit of the tough sport of mountain running.

Also placed at the forefront for 2017 are UK adventurers. Doing it Scared documents the inspiring Paul Pritchard, who returned to finish his climb of the Totem Pole in Tasmania 18 years after a falling boulder from the sea stack caused a life-changing injury that left him partially paralysed. Elsewhere, quirky short film Danny MacAskill's Wee Day Out follows the pro-trial cyclist around the beautiful rural landscapes that surround Edinburgh.
