Paedophile hunters: should police work with vigilantes?

Volunteers have come to play a crucial role in prosecutions - but professional warn their help is a double-edged sword

A total of 259 individuals were convicted of attempting to meet a child following sexual grooming in England, Wales and Northern Ireland last year.

In 114 of those cases - 44% overall - prosecutors used evidence gathered not only by the police but also by online anti-paedophile vigilante groups.
