Australian police have shot and killed a man brandishing a knife after one person was stabbed to death and two more injured in a seemingly random rampage in central Melbourne today.

Witnesses reported seeing a car speeding past and narrowly missing a tram, before crashing outside a department store on Bourke Street at 4.20pm local time, reports ABC News. One bystander said the driver got out of the car and threw “something like a bomb” into the vehicle, which burst into flames.
