Oxford grooming trial: girl, 12, forced to have illegal abortion
Victim, branded with abuser's initials, told friends she had 'no choice' but to submit to abuse
A 12-YEAR-OLD girl was made to have a back-room abortion when she fell pregnant after being repeatedly raped by a group of men accused of grooming her and other girls for prostitution, jurors at the Old Bailey heard yesterday.
Nine men, mostly of Asian descent, are on trial for 'grooming' girls and then charging other men hundreds of pounds to have sex with them in Oxford . The 12-year-old girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons, is one of six alleged victims aged between 11 and 15 who allegedly were subject to "extreme physical violence" and in some cases suffered internal injuries.
One defendant, 38-year-old Mohammed Karrar, claimed to "own" the 12-year-old girl and allegedly "branded" her with his initials, the BBC reports.
Prosecuting, Noel Lucas QC said the girl was sold to Karrar when she was 11 to "cure" her "bad attitude". Karrar allegedly gave her alcohol and drugs before he and his brother, Bassam Karrar, 33 repeatedly raped her. He then charged other men £400 to £600 to have sex with her. When she became pregnant as a result of the "persistent abuse", he arranged for her to have an abortion in a back room in Reading.
Lucas told jurors that Karrar regarded the girl as his property. "He felt he was entitled to have sex with her when he wanted and in whatever manner he wanted.
"If she had the courage to resist, he beat her. He branded her to make her his property and to ensure others knew it."
The girl apparently told a friend she had "no choice" but to submit to the abuse because "I've never been loved and this shows me love".
The nine men face multiple charges including child rape, arranging or facilitating child prostitution, trafficking for sexual exploitation, and using an instrument with intent to procure a miscarriage, the Daily Mail reports. The trial continues.
