Gaddafi burial demands published while NTC stalls
Former dictator’s will is posted on his website, but what will be done with his body?
THE WILL of former Libyan leader Col Muammar Gaddafi has appeared on his website, Seven Day News. It contains the ex-dictator’s wishes for his funeral, and urges his supporters to continue fighting.
"Should I be killed, I would like to be buried according to Muslim rituals, in the clothes I was wearing at the time of my death and my body unwashed, in the cemetery of Sirte, next to my family and relatives," the will states. "I call on my supporters to continue the resistance".
Copies of the will were reportedly given to three of Gaddafi’s relatives, only one of whom survived.
The deposed leader’s body has been on public display in a Misrata cooling chamber since Saturday, disregarding the Islamic custom of burying a body on the day of death.
The burial has been delayed because of disagreement among Libya’s interim leaders, according to The Times, despite claims from National Transitional Council Official Ahmed Jibril that: "a decision has been taken to hand him over to his extended family". ·
