TV movie starring Hayden Panettiere features scene of Kercher being murdered (with video)

A trailer for a film about the murder of Meredith Kercher and the trial of Amanda Knox, starring Hayden Panettiere, has been condemned by the victim's family for showing graphic images of her being attacked.

The TV movie, entitled Amanda Knox, Murder on Trial in Italy, will be shown later this month on the cable channel Lifetime in America.

A teaser for the film was broadcast this week and included a clip from a scene that showed the actors playing Raffaele Sollecito and Rudy Guede pinning down English exchange student Kercher as she screamed in terror.

Meredith's father, John Kercher, said that it appeared as if the production company had gone further than they said they would.

"I was told the original brief of the film was to take it up to the point of the killing but not actually show the killing," he told the Sun. "It's obvious from these pictures they are showing the killing."

He said watching the trailer was "very distressing" and described the scene as "horrific" and "awful".

Meredith is played by Cambridge graduate Amanda Fernando Stevens in the film, while Heroes star Panettiere takes on the role of Knox, who was convicted of murder and jailed for 25 years in 2009, two years after the killing.
