Arsenal transfer news: Wilshere could join Sampdoria for £9m

Jack Wilshere is wanted by Italian Serie A club Sampdoria and Arsenal could let him go for a cut-price £9m.

The talented midfielder, who has one year left on his current deal with the Gunners, has never realised his potential at the Emirates and has been plagued by injuries. But now he could rebuild his career with a move to Italy.

The Sun, citing Sky Italy as its source, says Arsenal are running out of patience with his stop-start career and are prepared to sell him.

Wilshere, 25, has been at Arsenal for nine years and on his day is one of the finest midfield talents in the country but he is currently recovering from yet another injury setback.

He is battling to get fit for the start of the season at a warm weather training camp in Dubai after breaking his leg while playing on loan for Bournemouth against Tottenham last season.

The injury has taken longer to heal than expected and that will rule him out of Arsenal’s pre-season tour to Australia and it seems that may be the final straw for manager Arsene Wenger.

The Sun draws a comparison with goalkeeper Joe Hart who moved to Torino to revitalise his career after being frozen out by Manchester City.

But could Wilshere, who was married in Italy earlier this summer, start again closer to home? The Daily Mirror says West Ham have also been linked with a move for Wilshere who is bidding to force his way back into the England reckoning ahead of next summer's World Cup.

Wenger, it seems, is already working on a replacement should Wilshere move on with Monaco winger Thomas Lemar near the top of his shopping list.

Arsenal lodged an opening bid of £30million in an attempt to sign the France international but the Ligue 1 champions rejected their offer for the 21-year-old.

The Gunners boss has already completed the club-record signing of Alexandre Lacazette, who has signed a five-year contract.
