Veteran goalie Pepe Reina 'set to leave Liverpool for Arsenal'
Meanwhile, Arsenal and Liverpool are chasing young Barcelona striker Cristian Tello
WITH the Arsenal defence in desperate need of enhancement, could Arsene Wenger have the found the solution in the shape of Pepe Reina? According to the Metro, the 30-year-old Liverpool shot-stopper could be on his way to the Emirates in January as Arsenal look to strengthen their goalkeeping options.
But is the Spaniard really the answer? This season the veteran Reina has struggled to hold down his place in the Liverpool starting XI with Brad Jones increasingly seen by manager Brendan Rodgers as his No1 choice.
The Metro says that Wenger first tried to sign Reina in 2010 for £20m and will come back again in the New Year. The Frenchman apparently believes Liverpool could be "more receptive to an offer this time around", while Reina has in the past hinted he could be up for a move to north London.
Meanwhile Arsenal and Liverpool have been boosted in their race to sign 21-year-old frontman Cristian Tello from Barcelona. Talksport reports that the youngster has yet to sign a contract extension with the Catalan club and this is "stoking speculation" that he could be weighing up a move to the Premier League.
Though Arsenal have been linked with Tello in recent months, Liverpool are the favourites to win his hand. Former Barca youth team coach Rodolfo Borrell is now a part of the Reds backroom staff and that could be the clincher come the New Year.
Is Schalke striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar poised to make the switch to the Premier League? The 29-year-old has been in sparkling form for the German outfit this season, prompting rumours that Liverpool, Arsenal, Tottenham and Everton are all keeping an eye on his movements.
However, asked by Italian website calciomercato.it whether Huntelaar was definitely on his way to England, agent Arnoldus Oosterveer replied: "There is no agreement with any English club and Klaas has not yet decided anything about his future. He has not decided if he wants to play in Italy, Spain, England or stay in Germany." Pressed on when the Dutch striker might make up his mind, Oosterveer said: "He is planning his future in the winter."
Caughtoffside.com claims that Newcastle United are resigned to losing Senegal international Demba Ba in January and have already lined up his replacement.
Anderlecht striker Dieumerci Mbokani is the man in question and the Magpies are said to be confident that they can get their hands on the 26-year-old for around £7.5m. The Congolese frontman, whose goals helped Anderlecht win the Belgian league last season, is said to be keen on a move to Newcastle.
Finally, The Sun says Chelsea are planning a £30m raid on Goodison Park in January for Marouane Fellaini. The Everton midfielder has been prominent during the Toffees' fine start to the season, and the Blues are expected to make a bid in a few weeks' time. Acknowledging the rumours, Fellaini is quoted as saying: "There is interest in me… I want to play for one of the biggest clubs one day. But I am patient."
