W Retreat Vieques, Puerto Rico

The W Retreat Vieques is "amazing", says Christopher Wakling in the Independent.

Located on a small island five miles east of Puerto Rico, it is surrounded by "pristine" beaches where the diving, fishing and surfing are superb; guests can also ride horses through the mountains inland.

Service is excellent, the food "faultless" and the design beautiful – "grey-taupe-dun" with splashes of colour.

There are two tiered infinity pools surrounded by private cabins. Although the hotel is part of a chain, rooms have "an organic, ethnic feel", dominated by "natural fibres, cane and driftwood".
