Parasailing donkey stunt horrifies beachgoers

Marketing stunt in Russia is now being investigated by the police

BY Alex Lewis LAST UPDATED AT 16:38 ON Tue 20 Jul 2010

There was chaos on a beach in southern Russia last Thursday after a particularly hare-brained marketing idea saw a donkey attached to a parachute in order to promote an ailing parasailing business.

The donkey, harnessed into a parasail, flew off into the air and proceeded to circle the skies above the village of Golubitskaya all the while kicking and braying in obvious distress.

Rather than attracting punters, however, the spectacle succeeded only in leaving tourists traumatised before later bringing the unwelcome attention of the police, who say they are investigating the incident.

"The donkey screamed and children cried. No one had the brains to call the police," a police official told AFP.

While things didn't end too smoothly for the donkey, it did at least survive the incident. "The donkey landed in an atrocious manner: it was dragged several metres along the water, after which the animal was pulled out half-alive onto the shore," reported Russian newspaper Taman.

Michael Jose - harmless fun for whom? The screaming donkey crashing to the ground? The traumatized children crying on the beach? Oh, that's right, it's okay because the Koreans eat dogs, for goodness sakes. Remind me not to be around when you're looking for a little harmless fun...

Oh come one, this is just a bit of harmless fun. It is quite funny, and a proof that the cretins who thought communism was a good thing until they got bankrupted by it need to get a life. If all they can afford is a paragliding donkey, then so be it. I mean the Koreans eat dogs, for goodness sakes. At least the donkey is alive. For now....

@John Tidswell: do you not get it?? You must be agreeing with the old "any publicity is good publicity". Well, it's not true! This is not good publicity, not good marketing. The only attention it got them is derision and disgust. As for the "high moral tone" that you seem to think is nothing but braying, did it occur to you that the moral tone just might be correct? This is the sort of medieval, barbaric treatment of animals that we should have left behind a long time ago. It's your supercilious comment that sounds like braying to me!

"How successful was the marketing when the publicity reached foreign newspapers? I love the high moral tone adopted by the press! Great, braying like donkeys seems appropiate.

Successful marketing is not about reaching people, it is about convincing people (who must be potential customers...for paragliding in Russia). These people convinced people only that they are bigger asses than the donkey. I'm surprised you seem to support them; were you their marketing consultant?

So it is not only when pigs fly

How HORRIBLE for this poor defenseless creature! What IDIOTIC people who carelessly and most cruelly allowed this to take place.
