A Chinese army recruit was lucky to escape unhurt after throwing a grenade at his feet
A raw Chinese army recruit narrowly escaped injury after a mishap in grenade throwing practice. The soldier, standing in a bunker, attempted to hit a target with the grenade, but instead threw it at the bunker wall.
He and his instructor ducked for cover as the grenade ricocheted off the concrete wall onto the ground. ·

When I did my National Service with the British Army, we had several instances of people pulling the pin, then dropping the grenade and throwing the pin. However, a lot of these reports were probably apochryphal, but even if one was correct, it was a dangerous situation for all concerned.
