Peruvian surfer Domingo Pianezzi has taught his pet alpaca to surf the waters of the Pacific Ocean - or at least sit tight on the board while he surfs.

The animal, a close relation to the llama, has been riding the waves with 44-year-old Pianezzi since he returned from a trip to Australia where he saw people surfing with kangaroos and koalas.

Despite criticism from people who say that it is cruel to put a mountain-dwelling animal in the sea, Pianezzi says that Pisco is getting used to the water. The pet is slowly mastering the art of surfing although has a tendency to dive headlong into the sea once they get going - but fortunately he wears a lifejacket. ·
