Millgate House, Richmond, Yorkshire

Georgian splendour in the North

LAST UPDATED AT 14:25 ON Fri 5 Mar 2010

Millgate House, located in a Georgian building just off Richmond’s cobbled square, is a guesthouse made in heaven, says Fiona Duncan in The Sunday Telegraph.

Even brewing coffee is "an art form" here – water is left exactly 25 seconds after boiling. Coffee is just one option in the "elegantly presented" breakfast, served in a dining room gleaming with mahogany and silver.

The "award-winning paradise garden" tumbles towards the River Swale and its waterfall; there’s a Regency drawing room with a roaring fire; and the bedrooms are "gracious", with good beds.

Doubles from £110 b&b.
