Hotel of the week: Carlisle Bay, Antigua

Manhattan chic can now be found on the beaches of Antigua

Carlisle Bay is "all about its beach", says Claudia Winkleman in The Independent.

Every room in the hotel has a wall of glass opening onto it – the most perfect crescent of white sand imaginable, beside a sparkling sea in an "unspoilt" corner of Antigua.

The hotel itself – designed by Gordon Campbell Gray of London’s One Aldwych – is "seriously chic".

Rooms are "reminiscent of Manhattan loft apartments", with dark wood beds and pale lime-stone floors; and the two restaurants – the "completely open" beach-side Indigo and the more formal East – are both good. A "delicious" break-fast is included in the room rate.

Doubles from £463pn.
