Hotel of the week: The Hambrough, Isle of Wight
Savour Michelin-starred food at this opulent seaside retreat
Housed in a Victorian villa in the "charming" seaside town of Ventnor, The Hambrough is a great place for a restorative weekend, says Paula Maynard in Condé Nast Traveller.
A restaurant with rooms, it thoroughly deserves the Michelin star earned under its current chef-patron, 27-year-old Robert Thompson, who took over in 2008.
The seven rooms vary in size, but all feel light and spacious thanks to "wonderfully high ceilings". Cream carpets, dark furniture and white orchids "set a calming tone"; all have flat-screen TVs and DVD players; the larger ones have "decadently deep" baths for two.
Doubles from £170 incl. breakfast.
