A stylish boutique hotel in Berwick-upon-Tweed with a glamorous proprietor and the feel of a B&B
The evolution of 1 Sallyport from private home to stylish boutique hotel has caused quite a stir in Berwick-upon-Tweed, says Lucy Gilmore in the Independent. The "sleepy border town" has always been a little "star-struck" by the glamorous proprietor, Elizabeth Middlemiss, and now she has done it again with a new £1m bar and brasserie – "a vision of pale wood, scarlet velvet and cream leather".
The hotel has nevertheless retained the "charming personal touches" of a b&b: there are six suites "mixing contemporary and French country styles", and "seasonal Northumberland produce" is on offer in the restaurant.
