Fantasy and irony have inspired a hotel that leads the way for Singapore's trendy set
The New Majestic leads the wave of "extravagant and indecorous boutique hotels" that has crashed through conservative Singapore in the past few years, says Jamie James in Conde Nast Traveller. Its "idiosyncratic" rooms include the "garish pink" Pussy Parlour, inspired by the bordellos that once lined Bukit Pasoh Road. Oval portholes in the floor of the rooftop swimming pool double up as sky-lights in the restaurant below. Fantasy and irony are the themes of the hotel's "hip" design, while both the "silky smooth" service and the "excellent" Cantonese cuisine live up to expectations. Doubles from £155.
