Hotel of the Week: Miramar

Silk and steel in Barcelona

LAST UPDATED AT 14:51 ON Wed 25 Feb 2009

Perched on the hill of Montjuic, Barcelona's Hotel Miramar affords "hypnotic views over the city and the sea", says Kate Hughes in the Independent. Opened in 2007, the building is "all exposed steelwork and right-angles", but incorporates the facade of an imposing villa built for the 1929 World Fair. The location is "outstanding", a pleasant 15-minute walk from the city centre. Rooms are "comfortable", but with "hard-edged" decor; there's a "swanky" out-door pool and "vast garden"; and the restaurant, "a favourite with well heeled locals", serves "excellent" modern Spanish food.
Double rooms with a terrace from €132, without breakfast. Contact: 0034 93 281 16 00; www.hotelmiramarbarcelona.com. ·
