First look at new Thatcher movie with Meryl Streep
Teaser trailer for The Iron Lady promises a new take on Britain’s only female prime minister
These days she's mostly remembered for her merciless attitude to the trade unions and signature handbag and pearls, but a new film looks set to shed a completely different light on Margaret Thatcher.
The Iron Lady is set to be released next January, but a teaser trailer is already doing the rounds. In it, two men are seen speaking patronisingly to an unseen woman. The clip ends with a shot of Meryl Streep as Thatcher, rebuking her advisers.
"I may be persuaded to surrender the hat," she tells them. "The pearls however, are absolutely non negotiable. That's the tone we want to strike."
The film will look at the woman who made her voice heard in an era when men dominated politics. She remains Britain's only female prime minister to date. ·
