A very lucky squirrel has become an internet sensation after it somehow managed to avoid becoming roadkill despite being run over by a Lamborgini LP670-4 SV supercar travelling at more than 100mph.

The rodent's close shave came at the California Speedway racetrack during a Lamborghini convention there last month.

Whatever its reasons for crossing the road the squirrel decided it wanted to do so, and it appeared to have a clear run to the other side, until the speeding sportscar hove into view.

As the rodent bolted for the grass verge the yellow Lambo, which sits just 15cm above the ground, came roaring down the straight at top speed, running right over the hapless animal.

But incredibly, the plucky creature managed to evade the car's wheels and didn't even appear to break stride as the Lamorghini zoomed over its head. And as the vehicle disappeared out of shot the squirrel was left bounding across the road, although it did appear to be lacking a centimetre or two of tail.

Since the video was posted on YouTube it has been watched by 3.5m people. ·
