New Zealand Christchurch earthquake: views from above (video)

The devastation caused by the earthquake that hit Christchurch in New Zealand yesterday is captured in this aerial video filmed from a helicopter.

Measuring 6.3 in magnitude and occurring around 1pm local time, at least 75 have so far been confirmed dead, with many more reported to still be trapped under rubble.

The video gives an idea of the extent of the damage showing collapsed buildings across the city. Other footage has shown workers trying to fence off dangerous areas and clear debris, as people of all ages stream through the streets.

Rescue efforts are ongoing, with around 300 people reported to still be missing. Mayor Bob Parker said: "Make no mistake - this is going to be a very black day for this shaken city." ·
