Rally footage shows aftermath of Kubica crash
The narrow, twisting route through northern Italy was flimed by the car behind Kubica (with video)
Footage of the aftermath of Robert Kubica's career-threatening rally crash on Sunday has been posted on YouTube, and it shows just how perilous the course on which the F1 driver came to grief really was.
The pictures come from a camera on board on the car of Italians Mauro Moreno and Corrado Bonato, which was just behind Kubica's. It shows them hurtling along the narrow and twisting route through the villages and countryside of northern Italy.
After speeding along roads barely wide enough for a single car, often with crash barriers mounted on either side to prevent vehicles from careering down the steep hills or into houses, the car tears through a small town. After more than three minutes of high speed driving the vehicle is yellow flagged by marshals and soon afterwards comes across frantic spectators in the road waving their arms.
They then come across the smoking wreckage of Kubica's Skoda Fabia. A man in overalls and a crash helmot, presumbaley Kubica's co-driver Jakub Gerber, who accused other drivers of failing to stop in the aftermath of the crash, is seen running towards Kubica's vehicle.
The second car pauses and then moves past the wreckage before coming to a halt at which point the co-driver is seen getting out of the car and the footage comes to an end.
Kubica remains in hospital in Pietra Ligure and faces more surgery on his right arm and leg after the crash. His recovery could take a year. ·
