Talking beaver sends ‘Crazy Mel’ Gibson up the creek

Video: Gibson’s bizarre comeback film is hijacked by spoof artists using tapes of his abusive phone calls

Disgraced actor Mel Gibson's attempt to make a Hollywood comeback with a new film about a talking hand-puppet called The Beaver is not going smoothly.

In the film, to be released in the US in February, Gibson plays a family man who deals with his depression by communicating through a beaver puppet he finds in a bin. Cue endless shots of Gibson talking to a puppet with a dodgy English accent that makes him sound spookily like Ray Winstone.

Made by, and co-starring, the Oscar-winning actress and director Jodie Foster, a trailer for The Beaver was shown on US television at the weekend.

Given the very classy Foster's involvement, some are saying "actually the film's quite good", even if it sounds bizarre.

But now the trailer has been hijacked by spoof artists who have replaced the puppet's lines with tapes of the notorious abusive phone calls made by actor to his former ex-girlfriend, Oksana Grigorieva, which have emerged during the couple's long-running legal battle over money and the custody of their daughter Lucia.

Jodie Foster will no doubt be upset to see the beaver issuing such lines as:

"You need a fucking doctor!" on YouTube - but taking on the rehabilitation of Mel Gibson was always going to be a high-risk venture.

Who will go to see gibson`s new release? To near real life as far as he is concerned.

Mel Gibson is one of the good guys. I like him. He is just interested in doing other things right now, like making great films such as 'Apocalypto' as director. Go Mel!

Mel Gibson is a nasty little creep, who needs psychiatric treatment. It does not matter who tries to resurrect Gibson`s career, he is finished. In any case, i would think Foster has her own problems.
