AMIR KHAN has been causing a stir on Twitter, after using the micro-blogging site to distribute a number of pictures he claims suggest murky goings-on during his points defeat last month by Lamont Peterson.

In a series of tweets Khan attempts to illustrate that an unknown man started to "interfere" with WBA official Michael Welsh in round six and continued to do so until the final bell.

The boxer goes on to claim that the man appears to tamper with judge's scorecards and alleges that after the fight Welsh confessed that his scorecard did not match the others.

The fight with Peterson, which took place in Washington, has already been a source of public ill-feeling from Khan, with the Bolton man describing the judge's decision to award a points win to Peterson "disgusting" at the post match press-conference.

The original source of concern for the Khan team was the unusually lengthy amount of time it took officials to add up the scorecards and the referee's decision to dock Khan two points for pushing.

These latest accusations about the fight, during which Khan lost his IBF and WBO light-welterweight belts, have prompted the president of the WBA, Gilberto Mendoza, to promise a full examination of Khan's allegations.

The topic is proving divisive on Twitter. User jonsavage03 tweeted "Omg this thing with Amir Khan could blow boxing apart. Everyone knew boxing was rigged but this could be the proof" while on the other side of the debate, kisslawsam delivered the rather more succinct "typical of another overrated Brit prick crying wolf". ·
