Business Digest: 3D-enabled games console will now reach Europe in March 2011

Nintendo shares fell and profit forecasts were more than halved after the Japanese company announced its new portable games console, the 3DS, will not be launched in time for the lucrative Christmas market.

The 3DS, which as its name suggests, will be 3D-enabled, is not the only factor in Nintendo's poor performance, the others being a strong Yen and a lack of strong game titles being released for the company's existing Wii and DS platforms.

In Tokyo, Nintendo shares closed down 9.3 per cent, while profit forecasts for the year to March 2011, which had previously been ¥200bn (£1.51bn), fell to ¥90bn.

The 3DS will now be launched in Japan in February and in Europe and the US in March.
