Toyota reveals fault in 270,000 Lexus cars

Business Digest: Car manufacturer yet to issue a recall after discovering engine fault

Toyota has warned of a defect in 270,000 of its luxury Lexus cars worldwide. The problem affects the engine, causing it to stall while the car is being driven.

The troubled car manufacturer is yet to issue a recall to owners, but if it does, it will be only the latest in a series caused by faults in Toyota cars. Ten million vehicles worldwide have been recalled for a variety of faults since September last year.

Sales of Toyota cars had recovered following those earlier recalls, with June sales up 26.7 per cent on a year ago. But fears of damage to Toyota’s reputation forced shares down by 2 per cent today.
