London garlic smuggler on the run
Smuggler try to escape tax fees by pretending his garlic was ginger
A garlic smuggler and his accomplice are on the run after being convicted at the Old Bailey of evading tax on 7,000 kilos of the bulb imported from China. Murugasan Natarajan, and his assistant Lakshmi Suresh, were convicted of dodging £2 million in import duty. Natarajan, who ran Perfect Imports & Exports from Southall, was sentenced to six years in jail. But the 57-year-old skipped bail and is being hunted, according to the BBC. The smuggler claimed his garlic was ginger, which is zero-rated for tax.
