Dollar jumps at news that Osama Bin Laden is dead
Business digest: World markets react well - but expert warns ‘it doesn't change much’
Stock markets reacted positively to the news that Osama Bin Laden had been killed, with the dollar expected to jump in value when the American markets open later today.
Stock index futures indicate that Wall Street's S&P 500 index would increase by 0.7 per cent.
Japan's Nikkei 225 index gained 1.6 per cent, closing at more than 10,000 for the first time since the earthquake and tsunami in March. Germany and France's bourses also opened higher.
But Chip Hanlon of Delta Global Advisors put it down to a temporary "feel-good value", adding: "It doesn't change much about the energy situation and doesn't change much about the ongoing battle with radical Islamists".
