Barclays awards boss Bob Diamond a £6.5m bonus
Business digest: The bank also reveals that it paid its top 231 staff £554m in 2010
Bob Diamond, the chief executive of Barclays, has been awarded a £6.5m bonus, prompting outrage from Union bosses and reigniting the row over City pay.
The details are contained in the bank's remuneration report which was published today.
Diamond's £6.5m bonus includes shares and comes on top of his salary of £250,000. He was also awarded another £2.25m in shares as part of a long term incentive plan.
The bank's remuneration report also revealed that one key member of staff - Jerry del Missier - received more than £30m in shares this month.
In 2010, 231 key staff members at Barclays were paid a combined £554m in 2010 - an average of almost £2.5m each.
Len McCluskey, general secretary of Unite, said: "Bob Diamond tries to convince taxpayers that the era of remorse and regret within banking is over, yet he has no shame in pocketing a seven figure bonus."
