Business digest: Car maker issues another recall - this time including UK models Avensis and Lexus

LAST UPDATED AT 11:17 ON Wed 26 Jan 2011

The world's biggest carmaker has announced yet another recall following fears over a possible fuel leakage. 1.7 million cars are involved worldwide, including 15,500 Avensis models and 3,100 Lexus models in the UK.

Although no accidents have yet been reported, the Japanese transport ministry stated that: "Slight cracks may appear on the engine fuel pipes. If [the car] continues to be used, the crack may be widened and there may be risks of fuel leakage."

Toyota said that owners of the relevant vehicles would be notified by post.

The carmaker has now recalled around 12 million cars in the past 18 months, with 14 separate recalls in 2010 alone. Last month, Toyota was fined a record $32.4 million in the US over its handling of the situation.

This does not appear to have damaged business too much, however, as earlier this week the company announced global sales of 8.42 million vehicles, making it the world's biggest carmaker for the third year in a row.

Amazing how the British journalists are led by the American agenda. GM was the worlds biggest car company, its was rescued by the American tax payer and all of a sudden the company that overtook them to number one slot cant make a car go straight! Car recalls are quite common, every car made seems to be a 'Beta', only Toyota gets reported. Just what the owners of GM want I would presume.
