Business Digest: Eric Daniels will pick up a healthy bonus this year before stepping down

LAST UPDATED AT 15:34 ON Wed 12 Jan 2011

Outgoing Lloyds CEO Eric Daniels will receive a £2 million bonus this year, according to BBC business editor Robert Peston.

The decision is an about turn for the American-born banker, who steps down in March. He had turned down his bonus in the previous two years but will not do so this time, according to the BBC's sources.

This comes just a day after Barclays boss Bob Diamond controversially said it was time for bankers to stop apologising for the financial crisis and continue to collect their bonuses.

On top of the bonus, Daniels could receive shares worth another £2 million from a long-term incentive plan. An announcement on the bonus will be made in February.
