Hypnotist jailed for putting woman in 'sex slave' trance
Self-taught hypnotist Timothy Porter put on the sex offenders register after exploiting his skill
A HYPNOTIST who persuaded a married woman she was his "sexual slave" during a trance has been jailed for 18 months.
Timothy Porter, 40, had offered to help his victim with weight loss and anxiety but once she was hypnotised he took advantage of her, making her touch her own breasts.
She contacted police after waking to find him with his trousers down, reports The Times.
He pleaded guilty to causing a person to engage in sexual activity without their consent and was jailed yesterday at Teesside Crown Court.
Porter, a former RAF serviceman, taught himself hypnotherapy, said prosecutor Jonathan Walker. After helping his victim in a series of sessions, he turned up at her home on the night of 2 December last year while her husband was away.
"He kept saying: 'No mind, no will of your own'," said Walker, who claimed his client had become frightened, but the session continued.
"The defendant stated he was her master, she was his sexual slave," he told the court. The amateur hypnotist then persuaded her to expose and touch her breasts while he performed a sex act on himself. Walker said the incident had a "profound effect" on the victim's sleeping pattern and general health.
Porter told police that he thought she was consenting to his actions and agreed that the incident had escalated and that he had misread the situation. He was placed on the sex offenders register for ten years and banned from contacting his victim and from acting as a hypnotist for ten years.
It is not the first time a hypnotist has taken advantage of a patient. Philip Sherwin, 47, from Leicester, was jailed for 18 months in January after filming himself sexually abusing a 19-year-old when she was in a trance. The judge at the time raised concerns about the lack of formal training and regulation for hypnotists. ·
