Three Birmingham men have been found guilty of planning terror attacks that would have eclipsed the 7/7 bombings. Irfan Naseer, 31, Irfan Khalid, 27, and Ashik Ali, 27, were 'central figures' in what police said was the most significant terror plot to be uncovered since 2006. They and six others were planning a huge attack involving eight to ten bombs when they were arrested in 2011.

David Cameron yesterday raised the possibility of diverting hundreds of millions of pounds from foreign aid to defence and security, including funding British forces in Afghanistan. Under fire from Tory backbenchers over spending on foreign aid, Cameron told reporters in Amritsar he is "very open" to ideas for diverting the money to "provide basic levels of stability and security".
