Actress Rachel Weisz has split up with her partner of nine years, the director Darren Aronofsky, according to gossip website TMZ. The couple, who have a four-year-old son, Henry Chance, and live in New York, are said to have parted ways some months ago although news of the split has only just come to light.

According to TMZ, rumours linking Weisz to James Bond actor Daniel Craig have been doing the rounds. The pair worked together on the forthcoming thriller Dream House earlier this year.

A spokesperson for the couple said: "They remain close friends and are committed to raising their son together in New York City."

At the turn of the year, Weisz (pictured above with Aronofsky), who starred in The Mummy, About a Boy and The Constant Gardener, was voted the woman most men would like to marry, by readers of Esquire magazine.

However she and Aronofsky, who directed The Wrestler, never tied the knot, although they had been engaged since 2005.

After winning the accolade Weisz, who turned 40 earlier this year, said: "I'm marriable. But I'm not married! I was getting worried that the men didn't like me any more."

In March, while filming Dream House with Craig, Weisz was crowned the West End's actress of the year at the Laurence Olivier Awards thanks to her performance as Blanche Dubois in Tennessee Williams's A Streetcar Named Desire.

Her latest film, called The Whistleblower, about peacekeeper in post-war Bosnia is due out next year, while Aronofsky's latest project, the well-received ballet thriller Black Swan starring Natalie Portman, is due to hit screens in the UK in early 2011.

It is not clear where this leaves a new film about Jackie Kennedy which, according to reports earlier this year, Aronofsky was going to direct, with Weisz in the lead role. ·
