Brand and Perry married in Indian tiger sanctuary
Sadly, Katy Perry’s maid-of-honour - Rihanna - was unable to attend
Following a "private and spiritual" ceremony - though not so private and spiritual that Noel Gallagher, Jonathan Ross and David Baddiel couldn't be in attendance - the British comedian Russell Brand and the American pop singer Katy Perry were married last night at a luxury resort outside the pink city of Jaipur.
According to Indian news reports, the wedding procession included 21 camels, elephants and horses, as well as traditional dancers and musicians.
But despite the exotic Hindu traditions, the service was performed by a Christian minister who was a long-time friend of Perry's family.
A spokesman for the couple said early today: "Russell Brand and Katy Perry are overjoyed to confirm that they were pronounced Mr and Mrs Brand on October 23."
The couple met at the MTV video awards in September 2009 when Brand (pictured above on safari the day before the wedding) was the host. The 35-year-old London comedian and now Hollywood actor proposed to Perry outside the Taj Mahal during an Indian holiday.
They are believed to have sold the photographic rights to their wedding to a London-based celebrity magazine. One person who won't be appearing in those pictures is Rihanna. She was meant to be the bride's maid of honour but reportedly had to cancel her trip to Jaipur at the last minute because she was needed in the recording studio.
According to one report, checks were being made on "noise pollution" from the wedding party, to ensure the Bengal tigers in the famous Ranthambhore sanctuary were not disturbed by the partying. ·
