Eva Mendes releases sex tape – with a twist
Actress finally reveals her tape: it’s long and sticky - but not very sexy
For the last week, fans of actress Eva Mendes seem to have had one thought on their minds: her sex tape. The search term 'Eva Mendes sex tape' shot up Google Trends in the last few days as celebrity blogger Perez Hilton announced a private video featuring the Bad Lieutenant actress would be leaked onto the internet this week.
Now a short film has indeed made its way to the web featuring Mendes, apparently with her blessing. Unfortunately for anyone hoping to see the Cuban-American actress naked, it turns out the whole thing is a publicity stunt for The Other Guys, Mendes's new comedy in which she stars with Will Ferrell.
The video, which can be seen on Ferrell's comedy website Funnyordie.com, starts in grainy night-vision mode, with Mendes crouched on a bed revealing a lot of cleavage and struggling with something out of shot. "Got it!" she announces suddenly as the shot changes to a daytime image and we see that she has been fiddling with wiring to fix the lighting in her room.
The video is a spoof infomercial for a pretend product Mendes is supposedly endorsing: "Eva Mendes's S.EX. Tape", a type of gaffer tape that "Secures things EXtremely well".
The tape is versatile, she explains, and can be used to solve the "nastiest, dirtiest, most flexible problems you have". It can be used on "poles, pipes, rods … and on untreated naked wood".
The film is a neat piece of revenge on prurient teenagers, for sure, but still manages an element of titillation: a concluding scene in night-vision mode features a fairly-scantily-clad Mendes.
And there's no doubt it is working well as promotion – both for The Other Guys, a cop comedy featuring Mark Wahlberg, and for Farrell's comedy website – because the film has had 1.2m views and counting. While Mendes doesn't mention her movie in the 'sex tape', she has issued a statement alongside the video.
She says: "If this was a publicity stunt I would have mentioned my new movie, The Other Guys, starring Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg. Nowhere in the tape do I mention that it comes out on August 6. Nothing about The Other Guys even shows up on the tape." ·
