Boyle in the dock again over Cumbria killer joke
Controversial comedian upsets audience member by saying he wanted to shoot taxi drivers
Controversial comedian Frankie Boyle is at it again, this time prompting outrage by making a joke about the Cumbria massacre a day after it happened.
During a stand-up show at the Hammersmith Apollo, the Scot told his audience that he understood why someone would want to shoot taxi drivers in the head.
The comment was a reference to Derrick Bird's killing spree on June 2 in which he shot dead 12 people, including taxi driver Darren Rewcastle. Bird himself worked as a cabbie in Whitehaven.
Now an audience member has come forward to criticise the comic. Tim Weaver told the Daily Mail: "I was shocked. I think most people were taken aback. It wasn't at all funny.
"There wasn't much laughter – I think it took a few seconds for people to realise what he was talking about and most couldn't quite believe it."
During his set the comic also made jokes about Baby P and Madeleine McCann - suggesting that the missing girl's father had taken the opportunity to put a pool table in her room.
He also repeated material about sufferers of Downs Syndrome, which had offended an audience member earlier in the tour.
Amid the condemnation from Mail readers there was some support for the comic. One wrote in to say that she had been at the same performance and found it "all very funny". She added: "If you don't like the sort of comedy that Frankie Boyle does then don't go!"
Boyle has been here before, many times. His jokes about the Queen, Rebecca Adlington and Palestine have landed him in hot water, although he seems unrepentant and quit the BBC show Mock the Week this year after he was ordered to tone down his comments. ·

Sometimes Frankie Boyle overshoots the mark and is really offensive, but does it matter? What is so terrible about being offended? Most of the time he is just very funny just because he is horribly near the edge and he makes us uncomfortable like the Two Ronnies never did.
He'll never be a millionaire but we need him in our lives.
I just love his sense of humour...he's so funny! I agree with Nota Bene....Keep it up Mr Boyle!!
As long as people can choose to pay and watch or not I I think we must allow it. Just please BBC never let the scum back..as you did with Ross.
I wonder if there is anything that wouldn't offend a Daily Mail reader...keep it up Mr Boyle
