Harry Potter’s Hermione admits to acting lessons
‘I was worst in class’ says Emma Watson, Hollywood’s highest paid actress
Emma Watson, the Harry Potter star who was the highest paid woman in Hollywood last year, has revealed she has been taking acting lessons at her American university. Not only that, Watson admits that she was "the worst in the class".
The 20-year-old English actress, who was first cast in the role of Hermione at nine, is just completing her first year at Brown University in Rhode Island. As well as studying European women's history and Ovid's Metamorphoses she has been taking acting lessons. She "cheerily" told Vanity Fair magazine: "I think actually I'm the worst person in the class."
In February, it was reported that Watson had earned £20m in 2009 - making her Hollywood's 14th highest earner, and ahead of all other actresses. The annual Vanity Fair Rich List put her annual earnings far above those of Angelina Jolie, Julia Roberts and Sarah Jessica Parker.
Watson - who scored straight As in her A-levels - surprised many in the film industry by turning down plum acting roles to go back to school. But she told Vanity Fair that she has never been happier, having swapped Hogwarts for Brown.
“I was scared before I came to Brown - that I wasn't going to be allowed to have both [a career and a normal life]. People would think that I didn't deserve to have both. [I was afraid they'd think], you're famous. You're given free handbags. Why should you deserve to be normal?”
It took her a while to settle into US college life. She told the magazine that the first week, which included her first frat party, was "just awful... I felt like I'd walked into an American teen movie."
But, she says, having a room-mate who had no interest in Harry Potter helped her make the transition from English film star to Ivy League freshman. As did, no doubt, meeting one Rafael Cebrian, an aspiring Spanish rock star who is reportedly now her boyfriend. ·

she is soo pretty
She said, "I THINK I'm worst," so she's obviously being modest. The girl is way too intelligent and talented to be the worst at anything. I think Emma Watson is gorgeous and such an admirable person. It takes a lot of courage and dedication to attend university when you're in the public spotlight as much as her. I wish her the very best and I have no doubt that she will continue to be extremely successful.
